Anne-Mette Hermans is Assistant Professor in beauty, health and wellbeing at Tranzo, the scientific center for care and wellbeing at Tilburg University. She received her PhD from King’s College London in 2019. Her research is largely qualitative in nature and focuses on (consumerist) notions of the malleability of (women’s) bodies. Hermans’ expertise lies in beauty practices, mainly cosmetic procedures. Her book Discourses of Perfection, which explores the normalization of cosmetic procedures, was published by Routledge in 2021. Hermans is co-founder and chairwoman of the Cosmetic Procedures Expertise Group. This interdisciplinary group aims to monitor, research and improve the medical cosmetic industry in the Netherlands.
