Workshop 3

Feminist futures: challenges and possibilities

Presenting at the workshop are the eight key members of WoMaHN (see Key Members) and open to 13 paying participants who also will present papers. The call for paying participants will be distributed broadly to allow for a broad international group.

With increasing attention being paid to the marginalization of women’s embodiment and health there is a pressing need to identify remaining knowledge gaps, challenges, and possibilities for scholarship on women’s embodiment and health. This is an urgent topic considering the surging critique to the neglect, taboo, and silence that for long have surrounded (and still surround) certain aspects of women’s embodiment and health. Furthermore, it requires interdisciplinary approaches that offer tools for examining the complex entanglement of lived experiences and socio-material norms. The third symposium focuses on the potential of critical social sciences, gender studies and medical humanities to identify and analyze fruitful future research endeavors and to challenge the marginalization of women’s embodiment and health.
